This paper addresses a genuine aspect of conceptionist visual rhetoric during the Viceroyalty of New Spain: the recycling of Immaculate Conception earlier types of representation that, with the consolidation of the image of the Immaculate derived from the Tota Pulchra, had fallen deprecated in the peninsular art. The tendency of artists and patrons towards these typologies reveals a key aspect to understand the definition of Hispanic culture during the centuries of the Baroque.
